This week, April 12-18, is Week of the Young Child (WOYC). Child Care Resource and Referral asks Iowans to come together for children. As part of this national celebration, you can honor young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives.
“All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life. Here in Southwest Iowa, we have a great opportunity to do our part to help young children,” said Carol Jensen, parent and community specialist of Child Care Resource and Referral of Southwest Iowa. “Week of the Young Child™ is a time for us to Celebrate Our Youngest Learners® all around the county.”
the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) sponsors Week of the Young Child. This week is an opportunity for all early childhood programs to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children. Local early childhood programs and family child care providers are celebrating this week in many different ways. Make sure to ask your provider or how your child will be celebrating, Jensen suggested.
Young children and their families depend on high-quality education and care. This will help children get a great start and bring lasting benefits to Iowa. Week of the Young Child™ is a time to recognize the importance of early learning and early literacy. It is also a way to celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children.
Child Care Resource and Referral provides resources, education and advocacy to support quality child care. It is a program of West Central Community Action. Iowa Department of Human Services and local resources provide funding. For information, call 1-800-945-9778.
